Ron Arad
Israeli designer (1951 - )
This Londoner by adoption has imposed a recognizable style among all, largely dominated by the curve as evidenced by his Big Easy armchair (1988, Moroso) or his Bookworm shelf (1994, Kartell). Ron Arad founded his first studio One Off Ltd in 1981 with Caroline Thormann. Then, success was not long to come: he signed his first success with, among others, the Rover (1981) and Well-Tempered Chair (1986) chairs, then with the emblematic Bookworm shelf (1993).
With little interest in mass production, Ron Arad sees design as an art in its own right: he essentially produces unique objects, which are bound by any utilitarian aim. These limited edition sculpture pieces are sold at a golden price. At the same time, Ron Arad continues creating for the industry by collaborating with major publishers (Vitra, Cassina, Driade, Fiam, Kartell, Artemide, Alessi, Flos).
Ron Arad is an innovative and daring visual artist: manipulation, transformation and experimentation are the key words of the spirit of his creations. Ron Arad is constantly experimenting with the capabilities of materials, using them in unconventional ways to achieve unprecedented aesthetic effects.
